Terms & Conditions Official Rules:
Chicago Climate Action Plan Earth Day 2010 Video Contest
Beginning Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 12:00AM CDT and continuing through Monday, April 12, 2010 at 5:00PM CDT (the “contest period”), contestants may enter the Chicago Climate Action Plan (CCAP) Earth Day 2010 Video Contest.
How to Enter:
During the contest period, contestants may submit their videos for entry in the contest. The subject matter of the videos submitted should attempt to depict the contestants’ use, or interest in one or more of the thirty-five mitigation or adaptation strategies in the CCAP. Videos should creatively explain, display or illustrate the action(s) in a way that would inspire others to adopt the action as well.
Video entries may be submitted by individual contestants or by teams of contestants (the “contestants”). Teams may consist of an unlimited number of participants. Each contestant or team may submit only one video entry in the contest. Videos must not exceed ninety seconds in length. Video file types accepted are: .avi .dv .mov .qt .mpg .mpg2 .mpeg2 .mpeg4 .mp4 .3gp .3g2 .asf .wmv .flv. Video file size must be under 250 MB. Videos must be submitted by uploading them to the video entry page at www.chicagoclimateaction.org/videocontest. Entries must be received by 5:00PM CDT on Monday, April 12, 2010.
Eligibility:
To enter and win, each contestant must be a legal U.S. resident, a resident of the city of Chicago and be enrolled as a student in one grammar school 5-8th grade, high school 9-12th grade or as a college undergraduate on April 22, 2010:
- In 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade at any school located within the Chicago, IL city limits;
- In 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade at any school located within the Chicago, IL city limits;
- Or as a student at any college located within the Chicago, IL city limits.
Employees of the City of Chicago, CCAP, advertising and promotion agencies or suppliers, participating contest judges, advertisers, sponsors, content providers and immediate family members or anyone residing in the same household of anyone so employed or contracted are not eligible to participate or win. Contest entries must include the contestant’s name, address, email address and telephone number. Contest winners may be required to provide proof of grade level and school enrollment.
Prizes:
There will be nine contest winners – a first, second and third place winner in each of the three grade levels.
- The first place contest winner in each grade level will receive $2,000.00 The winners will receive $1,500.00 and their school will receive $500.00 as a gift certificate to a school supply retailer.
- The second place contest winner in each grade level will receive $1000.00. The winners will receive $750.00 and their school will receive $250.00 as a gift certificate to a school supply retailer.
- The third place contest winner in each grade level will receive $500.00. The winners will receive $375.00 and their school will receive $125.00 as a gift certificate to a school supply retailer.
The prizes for the team will be divided equally among team members listed in their video submission. For students younger than 18, the prize will be awarded to a parent or guardian, who will be required to sign a liability release.
How to Win:
A panel of judges selected by the CCAP and its partners will view and judge all video entries. Winners will be determined based solely on creativity, originality and the best representation of the use of or interest in one or more of the thirty five mitigation or adaptation strategies of the CCAP in their daily life.
The contest winners will be announced on April 22, 2010.
After the contest period, visitors to www.chicagoclimateaction.org will be permitted to vote for their favorite of the nine winning videos. This online voting will take place between 12:00 AM April 23, 2010 and 5:00PM CDT on May 18, 2010 (the “online voting period”). At the conclusion of this voting period, the contestant whose video has received the most online votes will win an additional $500.00. The viewer’s choice prize will be awarded to only one video and the prize money divided equally among team members listed in their video submission. For students younger than 18, the prize will be awarded to a parent or guardian, who will be required to sign the liability release.
Conditions:
No purchase necessary to participate or win. Void where prohibited by law.
Contestants may enter a maximum of one video in the contest. Odds of winning cannot be calculated since the number of potential contest participants cannot be known in advance.
The contestants whose videos are determined to best meet the judging criteria described above will be the contest winners. The decisions of the CCAP judges are final.
During the online voting period, voters may cast one vote for any of the nine winning videos. Voters will be restricted to one vote per email address.
By submitting any video or information to the CCAP, contestants hereby grant to the CCAP and its affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees and assigns, an irrevocable, perpetual and royalty-free right to use, reproduce, edit, display, transmit, prepare derivative works of, modify, publish and otherwise make use of the submitted video or other information in any and all media, whether now known or hereinafter created, throughout the world and for any purpose. The rights granted to the CCAP n include but are not limited to the right to resize, crop, censor, compress, edit, feature, caption, affix logos to, and to otherwise alter or make use of the submitted video.
By submitting any video or information to the CCAP, contestants hereby represent and warrant that the submitted video or information does not and shall not infringe on any copyright, any rights of privacy or publicity of any person, or any other right of any third party, and contestants have the right to grant any and all rights and licenses granted to the Chicago Climate Action Plan herein, including but not limited to all necessary rights under copyright, free and clear of any claims or encumbrances.
Contestants acknowledge and agree that the CCAP shall have no obligation to post, display or otherwise make publicly available any video or information submitted by contestants, and may, in its sole discretion, remove, edit, modify or delete any video or information that contestants submit to the CCAP.
Contestants understand and intend that any video or information submitted to the CCAP may be available for viewing, rating, review and comment on by the public, and understand that comments or ratings with which the contestants disagree or are unhappy about may be published or otherwise become associated with any video or information contestants submit to the CCAP. By submitting any video or information to the CCAP, contestants hereby waive any privacy expectations that they may have with respect to any such video or information submitted to the CCAP.
Contestants hereby agree to hold the City of Chicago, the CCAP, and its partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees, sponsors, agents and/or contest administrators and assigns and the contest judges harmless from and against, and hereby waive any right to pursue, any claims of any nature arising in connection with the inclusion in, publication via or display on any CCAP site, or any other use authorized under these terms, of any video or information submitted to the CCAP.
Videos or information submitted by contestants to the site shall be the property of the CCAP and the CCAP shall have no obligation to provide any compensation to contestants or to preserve, return or otherwise make available to contestants or others any videos or information so submitted.
The CCAP is not responsible for and will not consider incorrect, incomplete or illegible entries.
The prizes are non-refundable, non-redeemable and non-transferable.
The prizes will be delivered to the winners in person at the April 22nd, 2010 Daley Plaza Earth Day event, the May 22nd, 2010 GreenFestival event, or at the Chicago Department of Environment office (30 N. LaSalle Ave 2nd Floor, Chicago, IL) by 4:30pm, Friday May 28th, 2010.
The CCAP is not responsible if the prize becomes lost, damaged or expires after a contest winner receives it.
If for reasons beyond the control of the CCAP, one of the prizes cannot be delivered to a contest winner or the winner does not pick-up their prize by 4:30 PM on May 28, 2010 or if a winner does not meet contest eligibility requirements, the CCAP has the right to cancel the prize.
Winners are solely responsible for all applicable taxes, fees, and duties. All Federal, state, and local taxes apply. Value of prizes exceeding $600.00 or an aggregate of $600.00 or more won in contests conducted by the CCAP during any one (1) calendar year period is reported to the Internal Revenue Service as additional income received. The amount reported to the IRS for income tax purposes will be the fair market value of the prize at the time the contest is initiated, or as soon thereafter as an accurate determination of value can be made.
Winners must each sign a liability release form relieving the CCAP of any liability for damage, loss or harm winners might incur in claiming or using the prizes. Failure to sign the liability release form will result in forfeiture of the prize.
Winners are responsible for all other expenses that may be incurred in association with the use of the prizes. The CCAP will not provide any additional money for any expenses incurred as a result of claiming or using the prize.
The CCAP reserves the right to use the contest winners’ names, photographs and/or likenesses on its web sites or in advertising materials for promotional and publicity purposes at any time without advance permission or knowledge required or any additional compensation.
If unforeseen technical difficulties prevent contestants from submitting videos into the contest during the contest period or prevent contest participants from voting during the online voting period, the CCAP may, in its sole discretion, extend the end date of the contest period. If such changes occur, the CCAP will provide ample and clear communication of these changes on the home page and in these contest rules.

The CCAP, their officers, directors, contest judges, agents, employees and partners are not responsible for any expenses, damages or loss the winners may incur due to illness, injury, or loss of life in claiming or using the prizes.
These contest rules may be modified at any time during the contest period with such changes announced and made on www.chicagoclimateaction.org
The CCAP reserves the right of final decision in all matters pertaining to this contest.
